About the Role
As a Building Construction Instructor, you will teach foundational and advanced construction principles—including framing, concrete, masonry, blueprint reading, and project safety—through structured curriculum, hands-on labs, and real-world scenarios. You will mentor students and help prepare them for entry-level careers in residential and commercial construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom and hands-on lab instruction using structured, approved curriculum.
- Teach core construction skills: framing, concrete work, masonry, drywall, roofing, flooring, and finish carpentry.
- Instruct students in blueprint reading, construction math, and project planning.
- Model and enforce OSHA-aligned safety standards in all lab and shop activities.
- Break down complex construction concepts into clear, step-by-step demonstrations.
- Evaluate student performance through competency check-offs, projects, and written assessments.
- Maintain accurate records for attendance, grades, and student progression.
- Keep the shop and lab environment clean, organized, and visitor-ready.
- Participate in curriculum development and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable, hands-on building construction industry experience.
- Proficiency in at least two core trades areas: carpentry, framing, masonry, concrete, or finish work.
- High School Diploma or GED required; associate degree or trades licensure a plus.
- Knowledge of OSHA 10 or 30 construction safety standards.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage and motivate adult learners.
- Basic computer proficiency for records, grades, and curriculum access.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a lab/shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching, apprenticeship training, or mentoring experience.
- NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certification.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- Experience in green building, sustainable construction, or commercial projects.
- Maryland journeyman or contractor license.
